Community Service Project
A community service project planned by the class will be initiated
following graduation. Class members will apply leadership skills in
organizing and completing a community service project within a six month
time period. Past projects have included a liaison with Camp Butler 2000
(a county program for at-risk youth) and a mentoring project with
mentally challenged students in the County.
Opportunity of a Lifetime
As a graduate of the program, young leaders will have the opportunity to
meet and interact with students from other parts of the County, and
establish bonds of friendship that will carry over long past graduation.
The trust that builds among participants will provide a network or
"chain of leaders" throughout the County which will remain strong.
Leaders in Action
Each year, the Youth Leadership Butler Class is invited to attend a full
day of activities at the Capitol in Topeka. This gives the youth an
opportunity to meet with state leaders and the Governor's staff. They
learn, first hand, about Kansas Government.
BCCC Credit Available
College credit is available through Butler County Community College.
